The 2022 International Forum on Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals was successfully opened in Beijing on September 6, 2022. This forum is hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and jointly organized by the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) and the Institute of Aerospace Information Innovation, CAS. The three-day forum was held in hybrid mode and attracted about 700 experts and scholars from 65 countries and regions. Prof. Gretchen Kalonji, dean of Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR), Sichuan University, chairman of the International Advisory Committee of CBAS (CBAS-IAC), is invited to give an opening remark.

The theme of this forum is "Digital Technology Promotes Global Sustainable Development", which aims to learn and respond to the global development initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping at the 76th United Nations General Assembly in 2019, to promote the application of digital technology in global sustainable development and to further develop big data methods, techniques, and knowledge sharing. Prof. Gretchen Kalonji was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the forum and delivered a speech online. She introduced the establishment process and working vision of the International Advisory Committee to the participants. CBAS-IAC was officially established on March 2, 2022, and is composed of 18 senior experts and scholars from 11 countries including China, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The main responsibilities of the committee include providing interdisciplinary scientific advice for CBAS, strengthening the international collaborations of CBAS, and providing education and training opportunities for youth and young professionals. According to Prof. Kalonji, the International Advisory Committee has been actively contributing to the planning and construction of CBAS since its establishment. In the future, CBAS-IAC will continue to perform its duties and provide advice for the development and growth of CBAS.
