Talking About Crops, Talking About Ancient And Modern, Looking At China And Foreign Countries——the opening report of "Research on the Development and Dissemination of Some American Crops from the Perspective of Global History" was successfully held at the School of History and Culture of Sichuan University
At 9 a.m. on June 5, 2022, the opening report meeting of the 2021 National Social Science Foundation project "Research on the Development and Dissemination of Some American Crops from the Perspective of Global History" was successfully held in Room 623, sixth floor, College of History and Culture (School of Tourism), Sichuan University, under the chairmanship of Professor Zhang Jian(张箭), the project leader.
Professor Zhang Jian first expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the experts, cadres and research group members who participated in themeeting, briefly introduced them, and briefly explained the combination of online and offline (relying on Tencent Meeting) mode of this report.
The first speaker was Liu Xiaoli(刘孝利), head of the project section of the social science office of the school. First of all, Liu expressed regret that all experts could not attend the offline meeting due to the epidemic, and at the same time, he briefly described the development status of the National Social Science Foundation of our university, affirmed the significance of Professor Zhang Jian's successful project, and expressed warm congratulations on this. At the same time, certain expectations are put forward for this project, and the members of the research group need to take advantage of this opportunity, carefully absorb the opinions and suggestions of experts, and complete the research work with high quality in close cooperation. In addition, he put forward experimental opinions on the development of applied disciplines and the practical development of basic disciplines such as history. Jiang Li(姜莉), scientific research secretary of the college, also congratulated the successful convening of the conference online.
Subsequently, Professor Zhang Jian presented the 52 crops native to the Americas studied in this project in the form of tables. These fifty-two crops are classified according to the language of origin land between native to Latin America and to the Anglo-Saxon Americas; According to their use, it is divided into eight categories: grain feed crops, cash crops, dried fruit crops, vegetable crops, fruit crops, medicinal crops, fragrant and seasoning crops and ornamental crops, and its research significance and researchfocus are reviewed.
Immediately afterwards, Professor Shen Jian(沈坚) of Zhejiang University gave a brief speech online. Professor Shen briefly elaborated on the successful establishment of the project, the significance of the project's research, the benefits of crop propagation in the Americas to China and the development direction of the project, especially the advantages of the project and the aspects that need to be combined. First, the final monograph of the project is unique. Second, it is necessary to pay attention to the characteristics of crop transmission, especially to combine with the development and natural conditions of the transmission area, and summarize the laws and characteristics from the regional dimension. The third is to pay attention to ideological improvement, from simply describing andsorting outtothe reality of returning, from the spread and planting of crops to the solution of their side effects.
Professor Shen Zhizhong(沈志忠) of Nanjing Agricultural University put forward his own views on the research perspective and focus by combining his own research and the development and dissemination methods of celery and cotton. Zhai Yu(翟宇), a researcher at the Guizhou Academy of Social Sciences, started from the characteristics of the evaluation system and the history discipline online, and proposed that the research of this project should be combined with practical significance and add application nature.
Subsequently, project team members Xu Yang(徐杨), Xiao Luna(肖璐娜), Zheng Boren(郑博仁), Xiao Feiyan(肖飞燕), Sun Jingjing (孙静静,online), Wu Haohan(吴浩菡)and Ren Fuyuan(任富源)respectively discussed the research ideas, research status, methods, and difficulties encountered in the specific crops they were responsible for.
In the expert comment session, Shen Jian, Shen Zhizhong and Zhai Yu all fully affirmed the diverse foreign languages mastered by the members of the research group (a total of six languages), sufficient preliminary preparation, and the cosmopolitan and original nature of the topic, and suggested that the research group members should combine the real society and consider both academia and non-academia when writing monographs. Finally, Professor Zhang briefly summarized the preparation and conduct of this report meeting, and successfully concluded the morning meeting.
In the afternoon, some members of the research group had a brief discussion on the progress of the project under the chairmanship of Professor Zhang. During the discussion, everyone expressed their opinions and exchanged with each other, further clarifying their responsibilities and the significance of their own scientific research work.
