New Book:India’s Sri Lanka Policy, 1948~2019
India’s Sri Lanka Policy:1948-2019 was published byInternational Culture Publication Corporation in May 2022. The book is based on thedissertation ofDr. Gao Gang, apostdoctoral researcherat theInstituteofSouth Asian Studies, Sichuan University (ISAS) and deputy director of Sri LankaStudiesCenter, ISAS, Sichuan University.
This book examined the development and evolution of Indian policy toward Sri Lanka since independence. As the author used timelines and major historical events as clues, hetouched uponhistorical landmarksof the bilateral engagementsuch as the independence of the two countries, the Sri Lankan civil war and the end of the civil war in 2009.Thebook made an in-depth discussion of issues of big significance for the bilateral relations, such as: (a) Sri Lanka’s position in India’s South Asia policy; India’s strategic cognition, and security considerations on Sri Lanka; (b) the continuity and variability of India’s Sri Lanka policy, and the reasons for the development and evolution of these policies; (c) Sri Lanka’s relations with other countriesin general andgreat powersin particularoutside South Asia and India’s concern about it.

More than 120 eventswere heldin 2021 in China and Pakistan so as tocelebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomaticties betweenthem andto commemoratethisprofound friendship. With the spirit of inheriting and enhancing friendship, the Institute of South Asian Studies, Sichuan University has launched a new book recentlytitled asResearch on China-Pakistan People-to-people Exchanges.
Written byDr.Chen Xiaoping, anAssociate Researcher fromthe Institute ofSouth Asian Studies, this book was published by International Cultural Publication Corporationin April 2022.Thanks its systematic organization ofsix chapters,it made a comprehensiveintroduction and discussion of China-Pakistan exchanges and cooperation in six aspects: culture, education, think tanks, media, medical&health, and tourism.This book contained memorabilia of people-to-people exchanges between China and Pakistan for readers’ references.
The author, as a visiting scholar,stayed inPakistan for one year in 2008 under the project funding and appointment of the Institute. Since then, she has been focusing on Pakistan and the relations between China and Pakistan for a long time. Thanks to a synergy of visiting experiencesandlong-term research,the authormanaged to interpret China-Pakistan people-to-people exchanges comprehensivelysince theestablishment ofdiplomaticties,especially in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. She also analyzed thestatus quo and problemsof this engagement,before making suggestion onsolutions to theproblems.
