Prof. Huo Wei, a leading archaeologist in China, specializes in the archaeology of Han and Tang periods in China, archaeology of art, archaeology of Tibet, cultural heritage studies and art history, cultural exchanges between China and the world, etc. Having engaged in archaeological field surveys and comprehensive research focusing on the southwestern region of China including Tibet, Prof. Huo has a rich experience in carrying out archaeological field surveys and has an outstanding capability to carry out comprehensive research. Prof. Huo has published several monographs such asArchaeological Research of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, Archaeological Discoveries and History of Tibetan Civilization: Vol. 1, the Pre-historical Period; The Tubo Period: New Archaeological Discoveries and Studies; The Buddhist Civilization in Western Tibet.Having published over 200 papers in authoritative Chinese and foreign core periodicals, he has won over ten provincial and ministerial-level first-, second-, and third-prize awards for his research achievements. His work was selected to be included in the National Achievements Library of the Philosophy and Social Sciences Series. He is also the chief expert for the key public bidding project entitled “Compilation and Study of Materials Concerning the Relationship Between Tibet and China in Cultural Relics and Archaeology” sponsored by the National Social Sciences Foundation.
Prof. Huo is currently a Sichuan UniversityDistinguishedProfessors,a Yangzi Scholar authorized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and a National-level teacher of the“Ten Thousand Talents Plan”. He is the foundation director of the Center for Tibetan Studies of Sichuan University, a Key Research Institute ofHumanities & Social Sciences in Chinese Universities, the academic dean of the school ofHistory and Culture (School of Archaeology and Museology, School of Tourism), and the director of Sichuan University Museum.
Prof. Huo serves as a member of the Discipline Review Committee of the State Council, the Review Panel of Chinese National Social Science Foundation and the Undergraduate Teaching Instruction Committee of MOE. His service also includes membership and chair on the board of Archaeological Society of China and Sichuan Province. Prof. Huo is on the Evaluation Committee of Senior Professional Title of Colleges, Museums and Archaeological and Cultural Institutions of Sichuan Province. He has been a member of the Academic Committee and associate director of the Teaching Instruction Committee ofHumanities & Social Sciences at Sichuan University.
Prof. Huo has been awarded the “Baogang Outstanding Teacher”, “National Model Teacher”, “Trans-Century Outstand Talent”, “Academic Head of Sichuan Province”, and received the “SpecialAllowance of the State Council” for hisachievements both in research and teaching.
