He is an excellent professor of Sichuan University, a famous expert on Taoist culture in China, Chinese philosophical historian and a social science research expert with special government allowance of the State Council of China. He was born in September 1954 in Xiamen city, Fujian Province and got his bachelor’s degree of Philosophy of Xiamen University in 1982, master’s degree of Philosophy of Institute of Religious Studies of Sichuan University in 1986 and doctor’s degree of Philosophy of Institute of Religious Studies of Sichuan University in 1996; in 2018, in recognition ofhis outstanding academic contributions, Daejin University of Korea awarded an honorary doctorate in education. He used to be a professor of the Chinese Department of Fujian Normal University, a distinguished professor of Minjiang Scholars of Xiamen University, a vice dean of the College of Humanities of Xiamen University, and a director of the Department of Philosophy of Xiamen University; now he is the Dean of Lao Tzu Research Institute of Sichuan University, the Chairman of the Professor Committee of Taoism and Religious Culture Studies of Sichuan University, a doctoral supervisor, the chief editor of National Top 100 Academic MagazineReligious Studies, the chief editor of English MagazineFrontiers of Daoist Studies, the chief editor of collected papersAcademic Journal of Laozi,Daoist Studies,Philosophy of life andChinese Laozi Studies, the discipline review experts of the National Social Science Foundation of China, the president of the Chinese Academy of Laozi Studies, the chief expert of the National“13th Five Year Plan” Cultural Major ProjectChinese Continuation of Taoist Collection, etc.
He has successively presided over more than ten projects, including the key project of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of education, “Integration of the Essence of Centennial Taoism” (chief expert), and the major project of national social science foundation “Summary Integration of Centennial Taoist and Taoist Studies” (chief expert). There are more than 30 main works, including History of Taoist Literature,Studies on The Six Classics and Confucianism and Taoism,Studies on the Realtions between Yi Study and Taoist Thought,Revelation of Yi Study and Taoist Symbols,150 Questions of Introduction to The Book of Changes,Fifteen lectures on Taoist Culture,History of Chinese Taoist Thought (vice editor), General History of Chinese Taoism (chief editor), Taoism and Chinese Health keeping Wisdom, etc. He organized the compilation of a series of large academic books such as New Knowledge of Chinese Studies and published more than 300 academic thesis such asA Textual Research on the Congenital Relationship Between Zhu Xi and the Book of Changes onSocial Sciences in China,Philosophical Research and other academic journals at home and abroad. His works have won 16 Provincial Awards, including 6 First Prizes, 5 Second Prizes, and 3 National Outstanding Achievement Award for Humanities and Social Sciences in Colleges and Universities. Two of the works have been selected into the “Selected Works of The China National Found for Social Sciences”, and another two of the works have been selected into the “Translation of Chinese Academic Works” project of National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences. His work Taoism and Women,FifteenLectures on Taoist Culture andGeneral History of Chinese Religious Thought are translated to foreign languages and published abroad successively.
